Welcome to the York Branch of the British Cacti and Succulent Society
|
 |
We are a friendly group of people that are very enthusiastic about cacti and succulents; cultivation,
species variation, ecotypes, natural habitats.
We meet every third Tuesday in the month, 7:30 pm,
at West Thorpe Methodist Church, Dringhouses, York, YO24 2PN, which
has ample parking. Come and join us,
new members are always very welcome.
The British Cactus &
Succulent Society (BCSS) has over 90 Branches in the UK, including the York Branch.
The objectives of the Society are to promote the study, conservation, propagation and
cultivation of cacti and other succulent plants. Membership of the Society is open to all.
Our meetings typically involve a presentation on a recent trip to see plants in habitat,
speakers describing their own collections or cultivation techniques along with quizzes, raffles, tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits. We
also often have plant sales
and small displays of plants at these meetings. You are welcome to bring plants to show- we aim to bring one cactus and one succulent to
each meeting (there is no pot limit). For details see our Branch Programme
and Events list.
The branch also has a library of
wonderful books freely available to York BCSS members
Last month, if you missed it, Ray Stephenson gave a wonderful presentation about Aeoniums. Don't miss out again, next month's on Tuesday April 24th 2012, is The Mojave Way by Peter Beresford.
